Talaria are winged sandals, a typical icon of the Greek Messenger God Hermes (Roman equivalent Mercury).

TALARIA System (The Autonomous Lookup And Report Internet Agent System) is a multi-agent system, developed for academic purposes at the University of Belgrade, Serbia, FON - Faculty of Business Administration, as a solution to the common problem of gathering information from diverse Web sites. It is part of the GOOD OLD AI research group efforts.

Main features:

  • periodically inspecting Web sites for appearance of relevant new content, and informing users about it;
  • ability to receive instructions from users in a user-friendly fashion in the form of natural language e-mail messages, whereas the each agent heuristically interprets concrete instructions from the mail text (e.g., “change site list” or “kill yourself”);
  • each user has a personal agent in order to achieve perception about agents as autonomous entities that work on behalf of the user.

In the context of Intelligent Software Agents development we can say that the main characteristics of TALARIA system are:

  • using the advantages of human-agent communication model to improve usability;
  • using the concept of information agents to relieve users from annoying and repetitive work.

The system was implemented using the JADE modeling framework.

Human-like interaction, autonomy-related aspects of this system, and acting on behalf of the user emphasize the usability advantages of this agent-based software.
